Suspect in vehicle theft case may seek strong criminal defence

Ontario police arrested two men on a recent Friday on charges related to vehicle theft. According to authorities, a pickup truck was stolen and driven a short distance away. Law enforcement officers who were nearby because of unrelated matters watched the two men leave the stolen vehicle then arrested them. Now, each man is likely in need of a solid criminal defence strategy.

The men, a 40-year-old and a 26-year-old, allegedly stole a pickup truck in Echo Bay and drove it a short distance to Sault Ste. Marie, where they reportedly parked the vehicle in a parking lot. The younger suspect allegedly attempted to run away as officers approached. However, with the help of the canine unit, he was soon apprehended,

When he was arrested, officers say they had reason to believe he was impaired. However, they claim the man refused to undergo a breath test and allege he became confrontational. After the suspect allegedly kicked and spat on officers, they learned that there was an arrest warrant outstanding for the suspect for a failed court appearance and violating a recognisance bond under which he was not allowed to leave his residence after consuming alcohol.

This man is now facing multiple charges relating to vehicle theft, impaired driving, bond violations and more. An Ontario resident facing such charges may find that the help of an experienced criminal defence lawyer could be a valuable asset in fighting against the allegations. A lawyer can examine the accusations, the available evidence and the methods used in the arrest and other procedures. He or she can advocate for the individual with the aim of achieving the best outcome under the particular circumstances of the case.
