Two men from Ottawa facing multiple drug charges

The police in Ottawa performed a traffic stop, but the results of the stop ended up being far more than anticipated for something so common—something that usually results in a ticket or a warning. Instead, the police arrested two men, and they are now facing drug charges. These were handed down after an investigation was carried out by the police department.

You have a right to ask police if you can leave

Sometimes, drug arrests in Ottawa happen because a police officer simply decides to talk to someone who happens to be carrying drugs at the time. However, the officer can't just stop someone and search him or her without reasonable suspicion that a search is warranted.

Child porn charges could stem from doctored images

The criminal code is fairly broad in the way that is defines child pornography. Images and videos that show sexual acts involving children clearly fall under this term, but it's important to note that some other types of materials are listed as well. For example, texts that refer to these same sexual acts can be considered child porn, as can images that don't technically even contain children.

How many young people admit to committing crimes?

It's often hard to figure out exactly how many young people in Canada have committed crimes, and one method of study is to simply ask to see how many will self-report violations. This method could be skewed, as some may feel compelled to lie, but it is still a valuable tool.
