A spokesperson for the Ontario Provincial Police says that any seizure of drugs and arrests will have an impact on the drug trade in the province. Reportedly, there is a significant market for illegal drugs, especially marijuana. The OPP arrested seven individuals who are now facing drug charges after a search warrant was executed on a recent Wednesday.
According to an arrest report, those arrested included two women and five men who are all now facing charges of producing and possessing of marijuana with the intention of trafficking. Furthermore, they allegedly possessed over $5,000 in proceeds of crime. The street crime unit, a drug enforcement unit, an emergency response team and a canine unit carried out the search.
Officials claim to have seized drugs to the value of approximately $3.9 million along with $18,000 cash when the search warrant was carried out. The operation apparently also yielded three vehicles. The ages of the individuals who were charged range between 20 and 54 years. As with any criminal accusation, those facing these charges have the right to defend themselves in court.
Anyone facing drug charges will naturally experience feelings of uncertainty, and even if it is not the first arrest, fear of the unknown may exacerbate the stress. Clearly, the most logical step would be to obtain the services of an experienced Ontario criminal defence lawyer. An attorney can examine the charges and the procedures used when the search was executed, and explain the procedures that will follow. He or she will work to achieve the best possible outcome while fighting to protect the individual legal rights of the accused individual.
