Any Ontario resident who faces criminal charges will likely seek professional help with defending him or herself. If it is drug charges, a conviction can have devastating consequences -- even if only a minor punishment is imposed. A drug-related conviction on a person's record can affect endeavours such as job applications, international travelling and more.
A 33-year-old man is facing such consequences after his arrest on a recent Tuesday evening. According to Brockville police, the man was pulled off the road for allegedly committing a traffic violation at approximately 10:30 p.m. The official report indicates that the driver was allegedly in possession of several items of drug paraphernalia. Furthermore, it was apparently determined that the man was on an impaired driving recognisance of bail with a curfew that prohibited him from being outside his Ottawa home at the time when officers pulled him off.
Furthermore, the police report revealed that a passenger, age 17, was allegedly also in possession of marijuana. No details were available about possible charges against the juvenile. The driver, though, was awaiting a bail hearing.
The most appropriate step for any Ontario resident to take if he or she is facing drug charges would likely be to secure the services of an experienced criminal defence lawyer. A skilled lawyer will thoroughly evaluate the charges and the evidence related to the traffic stop, the search and seizure procedures, along with the arrest process and more. Even serious evidence that was obtained improperly may be disregarded by the court. Based on the gathered evidence and information, the lawyer can work on a defence strategy that may lead to the best possible outcome.
