Ontario man faces drug charges after receiving imported parcel

When an Ontario resident faces accusations of committing a drug crime, it might be one of the most challenging times in his or her life. Facing drug charges can adversely affect the life of the accused, even if there is no conviction. For this reason, the support of a skilled criminal defense lawyer can be a significant advantage.

An Ontario man, age 28, is likely seeking legal counsel to defend him against drug charges. According to a Royal Canadian Mounted Police report, the charges against the man arose from a parcel that appeared suspicious of officers of the Canada Border Service Agency. The package reportedly originated from an oriental country, and the contents stated it was plastic bags. However, x-ray images showed what appeared to be a powder.

Upon investigation, the powdery substance proved to be furanyl-fentanyl -- an ingredient used to lace other drugs to make them even more potent. After discovering 10g of this drug in the parcel, RCMP executed a warrant to search the residence of the addressee. It is unknown whether any illegal drugs were seized during this search. However, the recipient of this parcel was arrested and charged with importing and possessing a controlled substance with the intention to distribute it.

When a person faces drug charges, it does not mean that he or she is guilty. Only when, and if, the Crown can prove the individual's guilt beyond a reasonable doubt can a person be convicted. Until then, any defendant, with the advocacy of an experienced criminal defense lawyer may challenge the evidence presented by the Crown attorneys. Regardless of the defense strategy used, the lawyer will aim to achieve the best possible result.
