Drug charges follow undercover operation in Ontario

When Ontario residents are accused of drug crimes, they will likely consider their defense options to avoid potentially adverse consequences. Any conviction on drug charges, even a minor fine, can affect a person's life in various ways. Employment opportunities can be limited, credit can be more difficult to obtain, and foreign countries can refuse entry to individuals who have been been found guilty of drug charges.

The Ontario Provincial Police recently arrested four individuals in the area of North Bay. Reportedly, this followed an investigation that centred on communities in that region over the past six months. As part of an undercover operation, officers say they purchased cocaine and methamphetamine. This led to the execution of several search warrants. The West Nipissing Police Service assisted in the quest.

Police reports indicate that the search yielded large quantities of meth tablets, marijuana, cocaine, marijuana plants and cash. Authorities estimate the street value of the drugs to be more than $131,000. The charges against the four people -- ages between 24 and 42 -- include possession and trafficking along with conspiracy and production offences.

Each of the four individuals facing various drug charges has every right to retain the services of an experienced Ontario criminal defence attorney. A skilled lawyer will scrutinise the evidence held by the Crown such as the confiscated drugs and paraphernalia, wiretaps, search warrants, surveillance material and statements. The attorney will examine the manner in which claimed evidence was obtained to assess whether it can properly be used against the defendants. The defence strategy will be based on the details of the case, and a seasoned lawyer will endeavour to achieve the best possible outcome under the circumstances.
