The Ottawa community rose up to support a young man when he lost his townhouse to a fire. He and his girlfriend lived there, along with his mother and two of his brothers. They lost all that they had in the structure, and pictures showed that it was totally gutted. To make the story even more heart-wrenching, the young man's girlfriend was pregnant and she was supposed to have the child just two days after the fire.
Now, it appears that the same young man is facing 12 different drug and weapons charges. They all stem from one incident that happened back at the beginning of December.
According the documents that were filed, the young man and two others were driving around, transporting drugs for the purpose of distribution. They had a shotgun and ammunition with them. They were all arrested and then released on bail. They will go to court on the sixth of January.
Though the charges were handed down long before the fire, the connection was not initially made. When the press came out with the story about the fire, they discovered the pending criminal charges. The address that is on file for the young man, from that arrest, is the address of the townhouse that burned down.
Online campaigns had already earned thousands of dollars for the young man, with people also pledging to give him a crib, clothes, furniture and other items for his child.
Those who are facing drug charges in Ottawa, especially when compounded by weapons charges, need to know all of their legal rights.
