The Ontario Provincial Police carried out a drug bust recently, which they called Project Arrowtown. They'd been working on it for roughly a year and a half. When they carried out the raids with seven search warrants, they were able to arrest seven different people on various drug charges.
However, they also ended up arresting two of their own. The first was a 36-year-old officer who is now facing charges for obstruction of justice, breach of trust and forgery. On top of that, he was apparently trafficking marijuana, and he's facing three counts for that crime.
He is a 10-year veteran of the force, working with the Leeds County Detachment. He has been suspended after the raid, but he is being paid while on suspension.
The other officer was a 41-year-old man from Elizabethtown. He is facing charges for obstruction of justice as well. Like the other officer, he has been suspended and is still going to be paid. He has been with the force even longer, as a 16-year vet, and he is also with the Leeds County detachment.
The police are not yet done with the operation. They're still looking for a 45-year-old man, and they have a warrant for his arrest. They claim he has been trafficking and possessing marijuana, and they say he's also been producing marijuana products.
The entire raid wasn't focused only on marijuana, though. The police said that they also seized cash and cocaine during the bust.
Anyone who is facing charges -- even someone who has been working for the police department -- has the right to a fair trial.
